Dr. Leyla Gulcur

Clinical Psychologist

Ph.D. Psychology, New York University

B.Sc. Psychology, Duke University

I’m a clinical psychologist trained and licensed in the United States, and I specialize in sexuality and relationships using a socially conscious, culturally inclusive approach.

With degrees in psychology from Duke University (B.Sc.) and New York University (Ph.D.), and a background in quantitative research, my approach to mental health reflects the larger philosophical question of how individuals can reach their full potential and how social norms, cultures and communities can act to impede or facilitate this potential.

In addition to my clinical work, I’ve worked as an activist and policy expert on sexual health globally. I also directed research projects in non-profit organizations and taught psychology for over two decades as an associate adjunct professor at New York University.

I’m multilingual in English, Turkish, French and Italian.  I lived, worked, and traveled in over 25 countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, North America and South Asia.

Because of my background as a "third-culture kid," I understand and form strong empathic bonds with clients from different cultures and communities. I specialize in working with individuals who have more than one cultural identity or are in intercultural relationships.

I’m also a long-time practitioner and instructor of tai chi, bagua and qigong, and I’m also a certified Medical Qigong Therapist (a healing modality) and Instructor of Earth Qigong for Women, which is a movement practice aimed at enhancing women’s sexual and reproductive health and well-being. I also use these modalities in my work with clients as needed.

Most of my clients are multicultural in one form or another and many also belong to different communities such as the LGBTQIA+ community or those in poly, kink, swinging or open relationships. All genders, sexualities, and relationship styles are welcome.
